Pick a Today Word… Pick a Today Thought…

Isn’t it great to be deliberate about the path you take instead of just zig zagging around your day, reacting to whatever shows up?p9130025

What’s your Today Word?  Your Today To-do?  Your Today Mantra?  Your Today Song to Hum?

Your Willing Spirit…

Have you decided to make a lifestyle change? Were you planning to start today?

Be Gentle With Yourself

Be Gentle With Yourself

Creating change requires a great deal of willingness to to experience the possible discomfort associated with replacing one behavior for another.

Whatever it is that you want to change in your life, as part of your determination, it will require a period of adjustment and also a change in the language you use to talk about it..

In order to create space for a new behavior, we need to be willing to let go of the old. Anyone who has quit smoking for instance, can attest to this.  The day needs to come when you are willing to walk through the discomfort of doing things differently.

I have found through my personal experience as well as through the shared experiences of others who have successfully made lasting lifestyle changes for themselves, that a helpful starting platform is a commitment to a definite period of adjustment.

21 days…. 60 days…. 90 days…

Helpful Affirmations

  • I can do this for 90 days…
  • I will survive…
  • I can live without_____ for 21 days…
  • I believe that I will emerge through this triumphant…
  • I am willing to move through the discomfort…
  • I see myself on the other side of this behavior….
  • I am committed to this lifestyle change…
  • One day at a time, I can do this…
  • Change requires change…
  • Just for today, I will…..

Another important aspect of  creating lasting change, is using the language of empowerment rather than deprivation.

Telling yourself  “I can’t have/do this anymore” will feel much different than “I am choosing to create healthful changes for myself.”

Refuse to engage in negative self talk.  Commit instead, to  positive, empowering thoughts and speech.

Whatever you want to change, please do it from a platform of self-love and self regard.  Don’t hack and whack at yourself because you think you are unacceptable as you are… love yourself into your new you…
