The Universal Sound of Peace

It occurred to me that I am busier now in my supposed ‘retirement’ than I ever was when I was working outside the home… I have several major projects on the go at the present and I can easily get off balance and over focused on them…

a relaxed attitude

just be here now...

Then… something as simple as my very demanding cat jumping on my lap, insisting on my attention, makes me stop, and set my thinking aside and just be… just enjoy…

My cat… Gracie, was a foundling… well… I found her as a baby wondering around by our local college, far from any houses… much too young to be navigating the streets alone… and I scooped her up and claimed her as mine…

My family says that’s the definition of stealing… that she is ill gotten goods… I say… “whatever… she’s mine now”… or rather… “I’m hers now”… she has been running our lives for 10 years… Everything is about her… she wants what she wants when she wants it… she even tells me when it’s bedtime… we are merely heated furniture…she keeps us around for her convenience…

The sound of a cat purring has been likened to the universal sound of peace… I agree… that sound… resonates with me… when she is laying on my chest, her face close to mine, purring… I allow myself to close my eyes and connect with it… just be…

I  breathe… center… re-balance… breathe… listen to the purr…

Often I am inspired to go for a walk… where I make sure to stop and just be part of the landscape… listening to the birds, enjoying the breeze on my skin… feeling part of the big picture… just being present in the moment…  being one with the universe… connected, awed and very, very grateful…

Ah… t’is a gift to be simple isn’t it?

Namaste

Ah yes … pets are so valuable to us. If only our people were as loving and excited to see us and be with us as our pets….

I have a Pyrenees/Collie cross dog that is the funniest dog I have ever known. His name is Goose (came from the shelter with the name???) and we often call him Bouncer because that is what he does.

He loves me so much and I am his best friend. He is always so excited to see me even if I have only been in the house for 5 minutes between visits with him. Walking with him is so entertaining, he runs off and then runs (bounces)back to check on me almost like he is making sure I am still there.

He is such a blessing to have around. If I am ever in a bad mood I only need to call for Goose and 5 minutes with him I feel adored and loved and ready to carry on again!!

Thanks for asking for comments on our pets Joyce. It is a great reminder of some of the important things in life!

Carly and Odin are my two Old English Sheepdogs, and my most loyal friends and companions. They have brought so much joy and positive energy into my life! We are all part of a mutual admiration society and adore one another without reservation or hesitation. They have such different personalities and are so interesting and fun to be around. Together they weigh over 200 lbs, but they are so gentle and well behaved that I can easily walk them with one hand. I am so appreciative of these two loving and gentle souls that have agreed to share their lives with me!

    Lovely picture Joyce!

I have 2 dogs (lab and cocker spaniel) and 4 cats (3 indoors and 1 outdoor). I’ve never thought of it before now but maybe I have lots of animal companions so that I have lots of reminders…..

    Thanks for the new though!

My dogs . . . especially the youngest one . . . reminds me everyday how simple life can be . . . a little love and affection, a little food, a cozy place to curl up and sleep. If we would all think like that, how content our lives would be!

Gracie is a beautiful cat! Thanks for sharing her with the rest of us and especially those of us who can’t have a cat.
It’s nice to have animal companions, they can be great listeners as well.
    Have a great day!

    Hi Joyce,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about Gracie.

I am blessed by 4 dogs who love me unconditionally. They are an interesting collection of animals that others couldn’t care for anymore but who give such joy to my life.

Their self-appointed leader is Sadie, a Jack Russell who is as bossy as your Gracie. She reminds me when it is time to go to bed, when I should fill the water bowl and monitors everyone’s food dish. She often pushes her way under my hands while I am at the computer so that she can get petted and I can take a break to appreciate how much she loves me.

My life would be a very sad place without my animal companions.

    Blessings.

    Good morning Joyce,

You are forever so clever. I have had several cats in my life, some great, some bossy and some just there. But there was one that was the household leader, Mr. Moon! Yes, Mr. Moon, he was a Himilian (spelling???) and a ball of fluffy fur. He ruled, reighned and told every one just where to sit, stand and where to place his food!

When he felt that I needed to sit, he would cause me to stumble if he had to to get my attention. So, when I decided ( hehahah) to sit, he would jump into my lap, roll over like a dog, with paws up, tongue extenede and licking his chops……..oh so funny. It would make me laugh and sometimes cry with hysteria! I miss him, he died of lukemia several years ago. I’ve not been able to replace him……….

Mr. Moon a very special cat…….ah the memories. Thanks for bringing them up today!

    Hi Joyce,

I loved your story about your cat and am truly grateful for my 2 lovey doveys! They are grey tabby cats and each one has a different personality…Ricky and Lucy..the names fit them perfectly.

They love to play and sleep together. Lucy loves to petted, while Ricky likes to be rubbed with my foot! He just went to get fixed a few weeks ago and he actually is wanting to be petted more.

They have brought so much peace and joy into my life in the past year and a half. Thank you God for all the little animals you have given us.

    Many blessings,
    Carol
