The Zen of Christmas… thriving & surviving the excess

ls0050041Sugar cookies, eggnog, fruit cake, chocolate, decadent desserts, wine, mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, butter, whipped cream, nuts…did I mention chocolate?

Gift wrapping, 24 hour shopping, line-ups, debit machines, parties… all that glitters…

T’is the season of the feasts. T’is the season of excess.

Celebrating Farrah and Michael… Invitation to share your stories…

Good Morning,

The Great Mystery…

whitney-gardens-253_21

What a sad day yesterday.  We lost not one but two icons from our youth.

Thinking back, I can probably remember all the words to all the Michael Jackson and Jackson 5 songs…  I loved his music and like countless others, consider him one of the greatest creative genius of all time…

In my youth, I watched Michael grow up on stage.  I felt invested in his growth.  I listened to and watched Thriller over and over and over and over… dazzled by his beauty, his voice and his dancing.

Being the same age, I felt so connected to him and his music.  He was a great, great artist and I will miss him…  I always held hope for a comeback…

My brother had the famous Farrah Fawcett poster as I’m sure yours did too.  I loved Charlie’s Angels at the time… they were beautiful and smart and funny and had exciting lives… Like all my friends, I watched every episode…

I really respected the role she played in The Burning Bed… she proved that she was willing to go beyond the confines of beauty queen and was indeed a serious actress.  Any time I saw her talk on an interview, I was touched by her gentleness and honesty.

In my heart and wishes, I held the door open for her to return to health and wellness…

Our world has lost some color…

Please feel free to share your stories of the impact these two artists had here.

PS… I wonder who was born yesterday?  What little souls have joined us here?  Welcome! Welcome!  The Wheel of Life continues to turn…

Positive Living: I’m a lover, not a fighter….

I used to be a “right fighter”… I was always rallying against an injustice of one amazontype or another… I would get myself all worked up, be fighting mad… I would enlist the support of my friends and we would spend our time together criticizing, complaining, moaning and blaming.

I’ve written angry letters, gone on rants, fought many a good fight…

Alas…my days of strapping on my amazon shield, picking up my sword and fighting the good fight are over.  I don’t want to spend my energy ‘being against’ anything anymore…

My whole approach to life has softened… I want spend my energy ‘being for‘ the goodness in life.  There is so much of that… The way I see it, if I place my energy on growth and kindness and service… I make the world just that much easier for everyone else to be in…

Picture this:

  • you are in a room full of people (like a town hall meeting)
  • 3/4 of the people are mad and exuding mad energy
  • do you feel good?

Now picture this:

  • you are in a room full of people
  • 3/4 of them are smiling and nodding their heads
  • do you feel good?

I want to feel good when I am around you…I enjoy your positive energy… I want you to feel good when you are around me… when you feel good, you inspire me to feel good, when I feel good, I create from that place… it’s a win-win-win situation…

I admit to sliding back into looking for my sword and shield from time to time when I hear about an injustice or stupidity, but, given time, I usually soften and look for the path of understanding, acceptance and positive expectation… “you may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one, I hope some day you’ll join us, and the world will be as one… imagine”

The cool thing is… according to the Law of Attraction… we get what we focus on whether we want it or not… so…. by focusing on solutions and ‘positivities’… I get more of that… my whole life is much softer now…

What do you think?

Honey… Honey… Wake up… You’re dreaming…

  • everyone who wants a job has a job
  • everyone who is hungry has access to food
  • all creatures great and small have health and habitat
  • the world is borderless
  • we celebrate uniquities and commonalities
  • our technology advances our culture and nurtures our planet
  • our food is nutritious and plentiful
  • our elderly are respected and provided with top quality care
  • everything and everyone supports universal health
  • our governments are by the people, for the people
  • our environment is clean and whole
  • everyone has enough
  • sigh…..

The Universal Sound of Peace

It occurred to me that I am busier now in my supposed ‘retirement’ than I ever was when I was working outside the home… I have several major projects on the go at the present and I can easily get off balance and over focused on them…

a relaxed attitude

just be here now...

Then… something as simple as my very demanding cat jumping on my lap, insisting on my attention, makes me stop, and set my thinking aside and just be… just enjoy…

My cat… Gracie, was a foundling… well… I found her as a baby wondering around by our local college, far from any houses… much too young to be navigating the streets alone… and I scooped her up and claimed her as mine…

My family says that’s the definition of stealing… that she is ill gotten goods… I say… “whatever… she’s mine now”… or rather… “I’m hers now”… she has been running our lives for 10 years… Everything is about her… she wants what she wants when she wants it… she even tells me when it’s bedtime… we are merely heated furniture…she keeps us around for her convenience…

The sound of a cat purring has been likened to the universal sound of peace… I agree… that sound… resonates with me… when she is laying on my chest, her face close to mine, purring… I allow myself to close my eyes and connect with it… just be…

I  breathe… center… re-balance… breathe… listen to the purr…

Often I am inspired to go for a walk… where I make sure to stop and just be part of the landscape… listening to the birds, enjoying the breeze on my skin… feeling part of the big picture… just being present in the moment…  being one with the universe… connected, awed and very, very grateful…

Ah… t’is a gift to be simple isn’t it?

Namaste
